Significant elements:
-Suspense
-The murder of Jacques Sauniere

The setting takes place in a modern era. This creates suspense in some aspects of the story. With the new technology of the modern era, there would have never been the tracking dot to detect the movement of the suspect; Robert Langdon. "Leave it in your pocket. If you throw it out, the signal will stop moving, and they'll know you found he dot. The only reason Fache let you along is because he can monitor where you are. If he thinks you've discovered what you're doing..." This creates suspense because the reader doesn't know what to expect, or how Robert Langdon will escape the situation. Suspense is significant to the story, because it adds the excitement the readers will enjoy, and keeps them interested in the story by asking themselves questions.

There is a very important aspect to the story, and that is the murder of Jacques Sauniere. "The gun roared, and the curator felt a searing heat as the bullet lodged in his stomach. He fell forward . . . struggling against the pain. Slowly, Sauniere rolled over and stared back through the bars at his attacker." Of course, this event is basically what unfolds the whole story. A chain reaction if you will. The murder of Jacques Sauniere triggers the call to action for Mr. Langdon, his partner later on happens to be the grandaughter of Jacques Sauniere. This changes a lot of events then if it wasn't his grandaughter.

"If you are going through hell, keep going." - Winston Churchill

Perseverance: The strength, or ability to make ones way through something of difficulty. Perseverance is a mental attribute that allows not give up on accomplishing a feat no matter how much work, or hard the goal is.

Perseverance is shown in the short story "Just Lather, That's All". The character that shows the most perseverance is the barber. During the story, the barber is faced with the problem of whether or not to kill the captain. "Damn him for coming, because I'm a revolutionary and not a murderer. And how easy it would be to kill him. And he deserves it. Does he? No! What the devil!" (Tellez126) During this part of the story, the barber is debating to himself about to kill the captain, or not. He perseveres through the tough decision and decides not to kill him.

"Wincing in pain, he summoned all of his faculties and strength. The desperate task before him, he knew, would require every remaining second of his life." (Brown6)

When Jacques Sauniere was dying, his instinct was to "...pass on the secret." (Brown5). His perseverance lead him to find a way to keep the secret alive. The quotation above relates to this perfectly, because Sauniere is definitely going through hell in attempt to save the secret, and he keeps going. This tells me that the "secret" mention in the story must be VERY important, this could be a foreshadowing tactic the author has made. Also, throughout the book, you are thinking of what the important secret could be, and thus creates suspense for the reader when different people are trying to find it.

The book I am currently reading, is The Da Vinci Code.
Brown, Dan. The Da Vinci Code. New York, A Disicion of Random House, Inc. 2003. Print.

"The pallid corpse of Jacques Sauniere lay on the parquet floor exactly as it appeared in the photograph. As Langdon stood over the body and squinted in the harsh light, he reminded himself to his amazement that Sauniere had spent his last minutes of life arranging his own body in the strange fashion." (Brown 38).

This part of the story is where the protagonist put himself in the perspective of someone who was dying, and spending their lost moments alive rearranging them self into an awkward position. I think that in a way, this could relate to justice. Before justice is given, an action by which justice needs to be accomplished is set. In this case, the murder of Jacques Sauniere is the action that will activate the lead to achieving justice. The fact that Langdon thought about what Jacques Sauniere went through, gives a little explanation as there are different types of justices. Bringing justice for the sake of protecting you, and helping yourself, and bringing justice for those incapable of doing so, and requires assistance. Langdon demonstrates that he is on the edge of bringing justice for Sauniere because he had sympathy for him.

 Five Main Elements of my Novel;

1) The first and most important element in the book The Da Vinci Code, is the plot. Filled with lots of twists, and action provides a good read. The Da Vinci Code is about a the greatest secret ever held, and the only person who knew about it was killed. However, when Jacques Saunieres (the last person who knew about the secret) was dying, he left but several clues that indicated that there was a secret. The only person who would be fit to do such a feat of finding it, would be the protagonist, Robert Langdon. This is the suspence part of the story, and there will definitely be more of that to come. I think that the plot is the most important aspect to a good book, because the plot is what makes a story, a story! The plot can include great suspence, give the reader foreshadowing of what to expect, and what not to expect. It also can create topics of discussion to something like a book club, or create debates. The plot, in my opinion is the most important element to a good book.
The plot is used obviously thoughout the book, and can't really be discribed using short examples from the book. However, there are turning points that change the plot drastically; "The gun roared, and the curator felt a searing heat as the bullet lodged in his stomach" (Brown4). This is one of many turning points of the story. Once I advance through the book, I'm sure lots more examples will come in place.

2) Mood
3) Suspense
4) Conflict
5) Setting

The qualities that I expect from a 'Good Book' should be within all books. The main quality that I would like to see in a book is the fact that the story is good! A book with a good story not only keeps the reader reading, but it gives provoking thoughts to the reader on what could happen next, what they thought about the book, and gives a reference for other books the author may have written.
An other quality that should be featured, are the details. Giving very specific details really draws a strong image to the reader. It also gives a better perspective on what is happening in the story. Details, pictures, and descriptive language is a very large aspect to a good book, and should be included in every book.
The last quality that I expect to come from a good book is that it is easy to follow, and easy to read. If you're reading sentences with 12 letter words coming every 3rd word, it will be challenging to the reader to understand. Instead, words a lot of people will known should be used, but not to be used too much to the point it becomes repetitive. Books that are easy to follow gives the reader thoughts on what could happen next. It also can keep the reader hooked on the book until the end.
These aspects that keeps the reading going is what I expect to get out of a good book.
